How Often Should You Mow Your Lawn in San Antonio?

A season-by-season mowing schedule for healthier grass in San Antonio and nearby areas.
The short answer
Through the main growing season, most San Antonio lawns look best mowed weekly. In spring and fall, every other week is often enough. In the slow part of winter, growth may stop almost entirely.
The better rule is the one-third rule: never remove more than a third of the blade height in a single cut. If your grass has outgrown that, mow, wait a few days, and mow again.
Mowing height by grass type
St. Augustine, common across the area, prefers a taller cut — roughly three to four inches. Bermuda does well shorter, around one to two inches. Zoysia sits in between.
Cutting too short is the most common mistake we see. Scalped grass loses shade at the soil surface, dries out, and lets weeds move in.
Weekly mowing in late spring through summer
Every 10–14 days in spring and fall
Raise the deck during heat and drought
Small habits that matter
Alternate mowing direction each visit so grass does not lean, keep blades sharp, and leave clippings on the lawn as free fertilizer unless they are clumping.
If keeping to a schedule is the hard part, that is exactly what a recurring maintenance plan is for — we show up on rhythm so you do not have to think about it.
